Trying to Enter Flow State
I did my 2024 taxes for the second time and I have no idea if my tax lady even submitted them to the government. Need that to happen with the quickness because I am in need of funds.
Time, my love of theatre, and my appetite all got away from me in April. Maximum enjoyment and low consideration for my body caught up to me and my ass got sick again, though much less severely than the initial flu. Thankfully it was the week before my trip and I was all better in time to fly to LA for a long weekend and have so much fun visiting friends and museums!
I had a zoom call with an admissions counselor at Arizona State University. Their Narrative Studies program is the only one that they have that would fit my career goals the most succinctly but the price point, while reasonable, is still out of my financial comfort zone, even if I were able to get a few thousand in grant money. I am contemplating keeping school on the back burner in favor of paying off debt and attending online writers workshops and just getting more active with local writing communities.
That said, I attended a webinar the other week and the featured writer says that the only way she ever gets any writing done is having non-negotiable office hours devoted to her book. She says she doesn’t always use the time to write; sometimes it’s to research, sometimes she’s working on shopping the book around etc. I have once again signed up for Query tracker and pulled the Google Doc back up and am ready to get back to it in earnest. So far I have been working on the first couple opening paragraphs of every chapter.
This month my roommate is going to be gone for three weeks and I am hoping I can enter a flow state to finish my blanket or get a huge chunk of it done. I just need to devote time to working on that project specifically. I might even work on my fish painting and my junk journaling. At any rate, I will be experimenting with baking the perfect rum cake and working on my macarons while the weather hovers around 65 degrees this month.
We’re already halfway through this month and the only thing I am positive I am going to accomplish on my list of goals is host my Shrek 25th anniversary party. Given the fact I came up with the idea and invited people months ago, I haven’t actually spent much time planning it thoroughly. I have one drink and the liquor will be on the side so people can individually spike their cups if they so desire. I also have a rather modest spread of hors d’oeuvres. Chicken and Waffles, spinach dip, onion rings and dragon deviled eggs. I am worried that my guests don’t know the movie Shrek particularly well and the reenacting won’t even be that accurate. Whatever, we’re sure to have fun.
